ROB MATTHEWS TAKES HOMESTEAD BY SKILL & STRATEGY

RON SCHROLL'S #7 GEICO WINS SEASON FINALE

" src="modules/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/normal_nnshomethur_%237.png" width="600" border="0">

The last race of the season for the Nationwide Open Series concluded today under the red flag for rain. Ron Schroll driving the #7 GEICO Chevy would take the Pole Position handily. Ron would show his muscle early and dominate the event. All the other drivers could do was was watch his car get smaller and smaller. Ray Chandonnet in the #61 Mohegun Sun Casino Dodge Charger showed some sign of life on the last pitstop of the event but proved no match for Schroll. Carl Black driving the #16 Chevy for Roush/Fenway Racing would be right there contesting at the end but mechanical failure brought his machine to the garage. Bob Chandonnet in his Harley Davidson #07 Chevy showed some muscle too midway but that white inside line of the apron would bite him and send him to the garage. Bob will lose his rookie stripe and will be right there with the best of them next season. Simon Gregoire in his Fender Guitar #55 Chevy made a terrific showing today and showed he'd be a force to contend with in the future as well. Mike Morgan fought his loose condition valiantly as his crew tried their best to tighten him up. Finally Mike had to park it in the garage as well when he had catastophic engine failure when he nosed it into the outside wall.

MIKE MORGAN #20 NNS FIXED 2008 CHAMPION

Ron Schroll in his #7 Chevy would sit on the Pole. Full fuel runs and worn tires made for some hairy pitting by some and would cause the yellow flag to fly. Drivers would be caught short and come close to or flat run out of fuel when the flags flew. Mahem and confusion caused some good drivers to go a lap or two down.

But Mike Morgan driving Joe Gibbs Gamespot #20 Toyota Camry would not be denied. Poor Mike got nailed under caution sustaining some damage by this reporter. Undaunted Mike pressed on and with a little luck on his side took the checkers for a good win.

<img class="image" title="nnshometue_result

He had blistering speeds during practice. He came out 2/10ths faster than everyone in Qualifying. And low and behold he flat out spanked the field the whole race. The fans knew it would be exciting to watch. And exciting it was from the first drop of the green flag.

Mike Morgan took the pole position handily. Mike driving the black #20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Camry lead the field the majority of the race. It looked like Mike would be impossible to deal with today. There was action all over the track with 3-4 car fields jockying for positions.

The last caution of the day would prove tragic for the #20 of Mike Morgan. He and his crew opted for a 4 tire change while Robert Matthews driving the Buffalo Bills Chevy #066 would strategically opt for right side only. Ron Schroll set a blistering time in qualifying with a time in the 28.6s.

An early blown tire by the #07 of Bob Chandonnet's #07 Dr. Pepper Chevy brought out the only caution of the race. The lead was shared by the other 3 drivers but again Ron Schroll in that #7 Hooters Chevy was the class of the field. 73 laps into the event the red flag flew for a welcome ending for the other drivers trying to catch Ron. Tornado warnings sent everyone scurrying for shelter. A blessing in disguise for all but Ron.
