ROB MATTHEWS TAKES HOMESTEAD BY SKILL & STRATEGY
| |
Ron Schroll took the pole in the #7 Chevrolet, but in the end, it was Rob Matthews in the #066 Toyota who took the checkerd flag at Homestead, Florida's COT Fixed event. Rob explained that his strategy was to run hard as long as he could, then pit earlier than his nemesis, Schroll. Along the way, Schroll's crew chief miscalculated the fuel consumption, and Ron was surprised to find himself several laps short by the end of the race. Ron was forced to pit with Robert closing, but a lap down. Due to tire wear, Schroll had a less than stellar pit stop, handing second place to #57, Rich Haynie, in the closing laps. Haynie was on a long fuel run, with no intention to pit. There were no yellows in the 134 lap event, a good job done by all drivers! Matthews cruised to the finish with his nearest threat a lap down! Congratulations to Robert Matthews in the #066 Buffalo Bills Toyota Camry. A great way to finish the season for this up and coming team. Look out for Matthews next season!

RON SCHROLL'S #7 GEICO WINS SEASON FINALE
| |

The last race of the season for the Nationwide Open Series concluded today under the red flag for rain. Ron Schroll driving the #7 GEICO Chevy would take the Pole Position handily. Ron would show his muscle early and dominate the event. All the other drivers could do was was watch his car get smaller and smaller. Ray Chandonnet in the #61 Mohegun Sun Casino Dodge Charger showed some sign of life on the last pitstop of the event but proved no match for Schroll. Carl Black driving the #16 Chevy for Roush/Fenway Racing would be right there contesting at the end but mechanical failure brought his machine to the garage. Bob Chandonnet in his Harley Davidson #07 Chevy showed some muscle too midway but that white inside line of the apron would bite him and send him to the garage. Bob will lose his rookie stripe and will be right there with the best of them next season. Simon Gregoire in his Fender Guitar #55 Chevy made a terrific showing today and showed he'd be a force to contend with in the future as well. Mike Morgan fought his loose condition valiantly as his crew tried their best to tighten him up. Finally Mike had to park it in the garage as well when he had catastophic engine failure when he nosed it into the outside wall.
