GORDON CARTER SKINS THE GATOR!

RACE REPORT COT OPEN
COTMonHomeGordon
Ron Schroll took the pole position again tonight with a strong lap in the 33's.  Once the race started, Schroll and Gordon Carter checked out on the pack, but were soon tracked down by Sandy Robinson, who was running at a blistering pace.  But the star that burns brightest burns out fast, and Sandy spun it after hooking the apron.  From there, it looked like Ron Schroll was going to run away with it, but the crafty Carter hit the pits early and gained just enough of a lead to fight off Schroll's charge at the very end of a great race.  There were only three yellows in the 134 lap event.  Congrats to Carter for a well-run race!

League Commissioner Ray Chandonnet was pleased with the outcome of the season, and has planned some racing events for the coming off-season.  Check in to the forums to keep up to date on the coming events!

ROB MATTHEWS TAKES HOMESTEAD BY SKILL & STRATEGY

RACE REPORT COT FIXED
COTSunHomeRob
Ron Schroll took the pole in the #7 Chevrolet, but in the end, it was Rob Matthews in the #066 Toyota who took the checkerd flag at Homestead, Florida's COT Fixed event.  Rob explained that his strategy was to run hard as long as he could, then pit earlier than his nemesis, Schroll.  Along the way, Schroll's crew chief miscalculated the fuel consumption, and Ron was surprised to find himself several laps short by the end of the race.  Ron was forced to pit with Robert closing, but a lap down.  Due to tire wear, Schroll had a less than stellar pit stop, handing second place to #57, Rich Haynie, in the closing laps.  Haynie was on a long fuel run, with no intention to pit.  There were no yellows in the 134 lap event, a good job done by all drivers!  Matthews cruised to the finish with his nearest threat a lap down!  Congratulations to Robert Matthews in the #066 Buffalo Bills Toyota Camry.  A great way to finish the season for this up and coming team.  Look out for Matthews next season!

RON SCHROLL'S #7 GEICO WINS SEASON FINALE

RACE REPORT NATIONWIDE OPEN

nnshomethur_#7

The last race of the season for the Nationwide Open Series concluded today under the red flag for rain. Ron Schroll driving the #7 GEICO Chevy would take the Pole Position handily. Ron would show his muscle early and dominate the event. All the other drivers could do was was watch his car get smaller and smaller. Ray Chandonnet in the #61 Mohegun Sun Casino Dodge Charger showed some sign of life on the last pitstop of the event but proved no match for Schroll. Carl Black driving the #16 Chevy for Roush/Fenway Racing would be right there contesting at the end but mechanical failure brought his machine to the garage. Bob Chandonnet in his Harley Davidson #07 Chevy showed some muscle too midway but that white inside line of the apron would bite him and send him to the garage. Bob will lose his rookie stripe and will be right there with the best of them next season. Simon Gregoire in his Fender Guitar #55 Chevy made a terrific showing today and showed he'd be a force to contend with in the future as well. Mike Morgan fought his loose condition valiantly as his crew tried their best to tighten him up. Finally Mike had to park it in the garage as well when he had catastophic engine failure when he nosed it into the outside wall.

MIKE MORGAN #20 NNS FIXED 2008 CHAMPION

RACE REPORT NATIONWIDE FIXED

nnshometue_#20

We had a good showing of drivers for the last race of the season. Ron Schroll in his #7 Chevy would sit on the Pole. Full fuel runs and worn tires made for some hairy pitting by some and would cause the yellow flag to fly. Drivers would be caught short and come close to or flat run out of fuel when the flags flew. Mahem and confusion caused some good drivers to go a lap or two down.

But Mike Morgan driving Joe Gibbs Gamespot #20 Toyota Camry would not be denied. Poor Mike got nailed under caution sustaining some damage by this reporter. Undaunted Mike pressed on and with a little luck on his side took the checkers for a good win.

RICH HAYNIE MAKES A STUNNING COMEBACK

MON_RR

cotphoemon_#57

It looked like Rich Haynie was going to be the class of the field. He had blistering speeds during practice. He came out 2/10ths faster than everyone in Qualifying. And low and behold he flat out spanked the field the whole race. In the post race interview Rich told this humble reporter he owed it all to the equipment under him. He said that Real Feel added to his wheel made all the difference in the world.
